Welcoming new Sorors, honoring our seasoned members, and nurturing the bonds of sisterhood at every stage — Membership is the heartbeat of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Our Purpose
Rooted in Care, Guided by Process
The Membership Committee lovingly guides every step of the membership journey — from welcoming prospective members through the Membership Intake Process established by our National Constitution and Bylaws, to “Welcoming Sorors Back to the Ivy” who have stepped away, to celebrating the members who have given decades of service.
We are committed to retaining our members, reclaiming inactive sorors, encouraging active participation, maintaining financial membership, and keeping our chapter rooted in connection and care.
How We Serve
Our Subcommittees
Golden, Pearl, Diamond and Seasoned Sorors
- Coordinates ordering of Golden, Pearl or Diamond regalia (crowns) and assists Membership Chairman with crowning
- Provides logistical support and coordinates carpooling for our Jewels and Seasoned Sorors, if needed
- Assesses and addresses the needs of our Jewels and Seasoned Sorors
- Assists with attendance logging for Jewels and Seasoned Sorors at meetings and events
- Ensures continued comfort and engagement in chapter activities
Silver Stars
- Coordinates ordering of Silver Star regalia (crowns) and assists Membership Chairman with crowning
- Partners with the Spotlight Recognition Committee on status honors
Aware & Care
- Conducts wellness checks for members who are sick and shut-in
- Manages distribution of get-well and sympathy cards
- Reaches out to members who have missed two or more meetings
Integration & Engagement
- Curates welcome packets for reactivated or transferring members
- Guides members through committee exploration and placement
Spotlight Recognition
- Coordinates monthly AKAversary celebrations
- Highlights member achievements during heritage and awareness months
- Acknowledges special recognition months
Theta Iota Omega In-Style
- Facilitates name badges and specialized identifiers
- Sources quality paraphernalia, pins, and accessories
- Curates stylish, approved chapter attire for a cohesive image
Special Projects
- Develops “Know Before You Go” guides for conferences and events
- Creates logistical briefs so members travel informed and prepared
